Class 4A Girls – Waukee Northwest concludes historic season

  • 1. Waukee Northwest – 150.5 points

The Wolves were heavy favorites coming into the Iowa state track and field meet, but they put together a team effort that is going to be hard to top anytime soon. They secured the all-time points record of 150.5 points, shattering the previous record of 126 points set by Davenport Assumption a decade ago.

In total, Waukee Northwest secured seven state titles: the 100 and 200-meter dashes, 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, 4×800 and shuttle hurdle relays. Across the 19 events, Northwest recorded at least a team point in each. Senior Katie Willits led the way with the 100 and 200-meter state titles, as well as running a leg in the shuttle hurdle relay, which broke an all-time Iowa record, and taking second in the 100-meter hurdles.

This is the program’s fourth title in five years and second in a row.

“I really can’t comprehend it right now,” said Waukee Northwest head coach Ben Duea. “We have an unbelievable group of athletes. It’s just a culture that’s unmatched right now, not just in track and field, but Northwest athletics and girls especially.”
